Mark your calendars! There are two weeks in a year that experts in the textbook field say are best to sell your textbooks.
Notice it’s about the same time you’re buying your textbooks? Data shows that most books do tend to sell during those weeks because the demand is higher as students are looking for required textbooks. It follows the basic economic theory of supply and demand. But what if you don’t get your books sold during those weeks? Are there other times of year that textbooks are selling well?
Obviously, textbooks sell best when students are buying them. But many students forget about a key player in the textbook industry, the college bookstores. College bookstores are notorious for having low buyback rates on books, so unless you have a really new edition or high-value book we do not recommend the bookstore buyback as you probably won’t get as much back as you would hope. However, many college bookstores have stopped getting their books exclusively from wholesalers and are checking the online market first. So listing your books around July 15th or November 30th will open up that market as well.
The other option you have is to sell to an online textbook company. They buy early as well to make sure that they have enough inventory for the upcoming semester. CampusBookRentals.com does not have a direct buyback; however, we have partnered with SellBackYourBook.com. You’re able to ship your books for free with a trackable FedEx label and you’ll receive your money within 1-3 days after your textbook is processed. If you’re not comfortable selling your book online and prefer to sell your book back to your bookstore, we suggest getting a quote a month to a month and half before the next semester starts.
We hope this helps and as we collect more data we’ll make sure to share it with you. Interested in seeing how much your books are worth? Start here to get a free quote.
